Catechesis is an intentional season of formation, exploring the core tenets of the Christian faith, often making use of a catechism.

What’s a catechism?

A catechism is a text divided up into sections of questions and answers, usually oriented around essential creeds or Scriptures to Christianity, like the Apostle’s Creed or the Lord’s Prayer.

“A catechism is ideally to be used in the context of a relationship between the catechist (the discipleship instructor) and the catechumen (the one being instructed) to foster the process of catechesis (disciple-making).” To Be A Christian, An Anglican Catechism. Ultimately, the process of catechesis is an act of disciple-making through renewal of the mind.

Catechesis is not just for new followers of Christ, but for anyone looking to dive deeper into their Christian faith. While catechesis will often be guided by the catechism, To Be A Christian, catechesis at Adoration also refers more broadly to intentional paths of learning the Christian faith in structured environments, this might also include participating in St. Paul’s House of Formation Cohort, or something similar.
